Car air conditioning systems
In the car in summer, it often feels like sitting in a 180° oven. To avoid arriving sweaty at your destination or the customer's door, you automatically turn up the air conditioning. But beware: In doing this, you risk catching a cold. Why? Two factors are responsible for this:
What to do?
Should you refrain from using the air conditioning in the car when the outside temperature is high, just to avoid catching a cold? This would be especially detrimental to your concentration, good humour and stress resilience.
Here is our recommendation of the most effective measures to increase travel comfort and improve well-being:
1. Maintenance
2. Temperature
3. Clothing
4. Keeping the mucous membranes moist
5. memonizer
Switch off the air conditioning at least 10 minutes before the end of the journey. This allows the airstream to dry the remaining moisture on the heat exchanger during the remaining journey time to your destination. Check the coolant level annually and top up any missing coolant. Prevent malfunctions by switching on the air conditioner from time to time, even during the colder months of the year.
Your body will thank you if you implement these simple tips:

The cold air spreads through the interior of the car. This can lead to severe cooling of the feet or abdominal area. Protect yourself by wearing appropriate clothing.
Pack your feet in socks made of terry cloth, especially on journeys of more than thirty minutes and on long hauls. Protect your abdomen with a dry towel.
And if you are prone to neck tension, a scarf or tube scarf will help.
To moisten your throat, it is sometimes sufficient to drink "room-temperature" water or tea. Tea with liquorice root in particular is a real throat-soother.
With the dark-field microscope, we were able to prove how much the electrosmog in vehicles affects the red blood cells. They clump together and form the so-called "rouleaux".

- Extreme temperature fluctuations
- Reduced immune defence (among other things due to dried out mucous membranes and exposure to electrosmog)

1. Servicing the air conditioner
By maintaining the air conditioner, you reduce the build-up of bacteria and viruses and, incidentally, also the "musty" smell:2. Adjust the temperature slowly
The basic rule for protecting yourself from catching a cold due to the air conditioning in your car is: the lower the temperature extremes or the gentler the lowering of the temperature inside the car, the less stress for your body. On a hot summer's day, it is particularly tempting to turn down the air-conditioning thermostat in a hot car to "fridge temperature". But temperature extremes put your body under stress, weakening its immune defences and making it vulnerable to disease-causing bacteria and viruses.Your body will thank you if you implement these simple tips:
- Bring movement into the accumulated heat in the car by ventilating vigorously for a few minutes with the doors open, sunroof (and boot in the case of an estate car/hatchback).
- Start the journey with the windows open and the fan turned up to get the remaining built-up heat out of the car.
- But avoid letting the air blow at you directly. This puts a strain on your muscles and can lead to muscle cramps.
- Trust the automatic climate control in your car. It automatically cools the interior temperature gradually and gently.
- If your car is not yet equipped with automatic air conditioning, slowly lower the temperature yourself.
- The ADAC (German Automobile Association) recommends making sure that the difference between the outside and inside temperature is no greater than 7 degrees.
- You will recognise that the temperature has been lowered too quickly by a sore throat, tingling in the nose or even circulatory problems.

3. Avoid cold feet
Where to direct the cold air? If you aim the nozzles directly against the windows, you risk catching a cold, because the windows then direct the cold air flow directly at you again. Therefore, direct the upper jets more towards the door trim. This keeps your head clear of cold air flow. The cold air spreads through the interior of the car. This can lead to severe cooling of the feet or abdominal area. Protect yourself by wearing appropriate clothing.

4. Moisten the mucous membranes in your nose and throat
Before you start a long journey in an air-conditioned car, train or plane, moisten your nasal mucous membranes with a sea salt nasal spray. Air conditioning removes moisture from the air - and thus also from your body. If your mucous membranes are dry, bacteria and viruses have an easy time docking and causing you to catch a cold.To moisten your throat, it is sometimes sufficient to drink "room-temperature" water or tea. Tea with liquorice root in particular is a real throat-soother.
5. Use a memonizer
Cars with conventional drive systems have become enormous sources of electrosmog with their modern equipment. The effect is even stronger if you drive an electric/hybrid car. Here, you sit on top of the battery and literally bathe in an electromagnetic voltage field. With the dark-field microscope, we were able to prove how much the electrosmog in vehicles affects the red blood cells. They clump together and form the so-called "rouleaux".
